AI LA Newsletter January 2021

Happy New Year!

In 2021, we are shaking up our regular virtual events, so we can be more constructive with our time together.

  • We are pausing The New Normal series for right now, so we can focus more on a new podcast we plan to launch in February.

  • We are experimenting with the new audio drop-in app, Clubhouse as a platform to debate the ethical use of emerging technologies and to discuss applications of AI and machine learning. We are hosting a room every Tuesday at 7pm PT. If you have an iPhone and would like an invite, please reply back and we’ll get you setup!

  • We rebranded our Book Club to a Special Interest Group, which meets on the last Monday of each month. Join theoretical physicist and AI researcher at USC, Dr. Marcin Abram on Monday, January 25th, at 7pm PT to discuss the AI Debate 2: Moving AI Forward: An Interdisciplinary Approach. Register for Zoom here.

  • Virtual Happy Hours are being postponed right now. If you are interested in leading a monthly social, please reach out.

Earth Summit 2021

Last year, we unfortunately had to cancel our annual Earth Summit because of the pandemic. This coming April, we are bringing it back as a virtual event. Look out for an official announcement in February. If you are passionate about sustainability and planetary health, please reply back to help us develop content.

On January 27th at 8:30am PT, London & Partners is partnering with AI LA to bring the communities of London and Los Angeles together.

During this interactive online event, we will share best practices, highlight leadership in both cities and discuss challenges and real opportunities in equity in AI. We will be joined by an incredible line up of speakers from both ecosystems.

In the next AI LA newsletter, we are going to spotlight some of the amazing volunteers we have working behind the scenes to help research and develop educational content for our community.

Thank you for your support and we look forward to meeting again!
